More than that: At least in Germany there are clubs with CarDocs to be discovered!

News about a favourable oldtimer-insurance:

Old love never corrodes:
Deutsches Ärzteblatt 95, Heft 30 vom 24.07.98, Seite [79]

Some CarDocs have oldtimers which are more than 20 years old. But who should insure these cars? They occasionally drive them for a limited amount of miles/km and that only in the summertime. The Zurich Agrippina group has now issued a special tarif which can be choosen indepentantly from the normal types and classes of cars. In this tarif the oldtimers are taxed in the lowest-rate-class even if the other car of the owner has to pay more.

"Oldtimers are collectors objects which are treated with much more care and used up much less than normal cars. Therefore we can insure them at an especially low rate, so that our clients can enjoy their summer trips" says Horst Schug, member of the board of the Zurich Agrippina group.

Pre-conditions are a car age of more than 20 years and a fairly original state of the car.

More than that! How a medical doctor got his Oldtimer insured for "FREE":

Ellermann, Bernd
Glosse: Schaden-Freiheitsklasse Null
Deutsches Ärzteblatt 94, Heft 9 vom 28.02.97, Seite A-541

The car insurances are competing with "take-offs" in their percentages. We should use this as clever clients!

I informed myself and studied the market. I drive little and have a garage. That´s 20 % less. Of course I let nobody else drive, that´s another 10 %. A special training with the ADAC (German car association): 10 %. Another 10 % because I drive an oldtimer. (Even the insurance bosses know that oldtimers are treated well and accidents are rare. In all this sums up to 50 % reduction......

Then I proved the insurance that I use public transport very often and got another 10 % reduction. Well, I hesitated to sign the contract.
I argued that I drive especially carefully as a medical doctor, this should bring some other percent reduction. I mentioned some names of competing insurances which give professional reductions for doctors. The representative called his direction. "They agreed: 15 %!" he said and waved his contract in front of me.

But I still hesitated and tried to gain time. He said: "Don´t you vote for the CDU (German political party) and aren´t you catholic, so to speak conservative-thinking? Maybe we can make something here."  I added: "And NOT wearing glasses!" OK. Further telephone calls gave a CDU and NOT-glasses reduction so I arrived in the class of "0 %". Now I signed the contract.

Three weeks later the insurance police came: In fact! The rate was Null DM. I read the conditions at once. In paragraph 123 was noted in small letters: "The insurance guarantees are rated down like the rate to 0 %". Typical!

2) Thomas Edwin Ellenberger is "GreaseMonkeyDoc" (his own words!)

Wolfgang,
I enjoyed viewing the hobbies listed on your website.  Most are more high-minded than mine.  In recent years I have resumed an old hobby from my mispent youth that might be properly characterized as "grease monkey-doc."  I restore old Porsche 911s in my spare time (attached photos) and find it to be very relaxing working with my hands.
With Regards,
Tom
