the "Mannheim UroBand":

....one of their provoking CD covers......LOL!

This rockband founded by five Urologists performs with supreme professionality!
It is possible to get a CD and even a complete Video production of their performance.

Titles like "Rocky The Stone" are telling about the nasty tour of a kidney (and later bladder) stone
which is wandering along the urinary tract and enjoying to make the patients kidney hurting...!

Another interesting title: "I Am The Boss". The medical director of a hospital has fun to delegate
everything and let other people work for him so that he can make four holidays a year in all parts of the world....

The title of the Video production is very clear: "Pants down!" and it is a very well done production of a live
rock concert by Mannheim Uroband.

citation from that site: Mannheim Uroband:
This band has been around for a while. It all began one morning in the
operating theatre of the Mannheim University Hospital over ten years ago,
when it was discussed, during surgery, what could be done to entertain the
staff at the urology department's summer party. It soon became apparent that
everyone in the room played an instrument. In fact, there was a whole band!
A civil servant, about to study medicine, played drums, a resident sang and,
of the three assistant surgeons, two played guitar and one played bass. The
first song was quickly written and performed at least a dozen times during
the summer party - while the department's chairman was kept busy in the car
park, persuading the police not to stop the concert!

The band enjoyed playing together so much that soon further songs where
written: all about their daily work as urologists. The first songs were put
out as a record which was sold in the hospital - mainly to the hospital
staff. The band played further live gigs - mainly at medical conventions.
The vinyl record was followed by a CD, which began to attract attention
outside the professional community as well. The local record shops started
to carry the CD and the media caught on. Five medical specialists singing
about kidneys and prostates: this was unique!

But not only did they sing about their work - they also wanted to offer
insight into a medical subject, which most people prefer not to talk about.
This was and still is always done in a very professional manner and, when
writing songs, the writers always bear in mind that the lyrics should offer
explanation and support to the general public, when dealing with medical
issues. In the meantime, the CDs started selling throughout Germany and the
concerts became true happenings, with the fans starting to dress up as
doctors or in scrubs and bringing medical paraphernalia to throw on stage!

When the hospital secretaries became too busy answering calls about the
band, it was time to join forces with professional publishing and
distribution companies. These had to accept first, however, that music was
merely a hobby to the band: the concert dates or recording sessions had to
be coordinated with the on-call-roster of the clinic or congress dates. More
than once, interviews were interrupted by urgent calls from the clinic.
Nevertheless, the band produced video clips, a live concert film and were
invited to most of the major German television shows. Regardless of whether
it was a music or game show, a medical programme or a talkshow, THE MANNHEIM
UROBAND presented their ideas about unconventional medical education. When
British television filmed and aired a special about the band, which still
only sang in German, it was decided that the next album should contain songs
sung in English.

This recording represents the true style of THE MANNHEIM UROBAND:

Lyrics about urology and daily life in the clinic, presented in a variety of musical
styles from Rock to Reggae, from Blues to Hip-Hop.

3) "Die Echten Ärzte" ["True Doctors"] (ex "Dancing Patellas")

Echte Ärzte (ex Dancing Patellas)

Dear colleague Ellenberger, here a short text about our band "ECHTE AERZTE":

"echte aerzte" is a doctors' band which was founded in 2001 at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin. It became known as "Dancing Patellas" -
the name of the former band of keyboarder Hannes Haberl during his Munich -period. We changed out name as the munich band tries to start a revival
presently.

ECHTE AERZTE are:

Dr. med. Nina Bluemchen, (pediatrician, vocals)
PD. Dr. med. Hannes Haberl (neuro-surgeon, keyboards, arrangements)
Prof.Dr. Thomas Lempert (neurologist, guitar).
Prof. Dr. med. Bodo Niggemann (pediatrician, drums, vocals)
Dr. med. Arpad von Moers (pediatrician, saxophone)
Dr. med. Markus Schmidt (pediatrician, bass)

Our repertoire (about three hours) is based on german "Schlager" and 60's and 70's oldies. We submit the songs to subtile microsurgical changes of
arrangement and speed, achieving surprising, sometimes dazzling effects.

We are performing on the occasion of national and international medical congresses, the "Frankfurter Buchmesse" at the "Roter Salon" of the
"Berliner Volksbuehne" as well as the Kreuzberger Punk-Kult-Laden "SO 36" our annual famous christmas concert.

6) Alexander Fischer is RockDoc and GuitarDoc

Alexander Fischer

7) Dennis Novack is RockDoc

Wolfgang,

Thanks for your e-mail.  It's fun that you have put together this website!  I have been in rock bands with medical students and residents for the past 20 years.  At Drexel, we have just finished performing at our 14th annual pediatric AIDS benefit and this year raised almost $65,000.
I've been traveling quite a bit recently and am heading off to France in the morning and am incredibly behind so probably won't be able to get to your request for photos etc.
I really appreciate what you are doing, though!
All best wishes.
Dennis
