Dear Wolfgang,

publish....hope so. [Wolfgang: absolutely!]
European Doctors Orchestra (EDO), Continental premier Concert, Bucharest, Sunday
8 p.m. June 5th 2005
It is hard to sum up in words the experience we all had in participating in
EDO's second ever concert in Bucharest on the 5th of June.
We all arrived on Thursday evening and stayed at the same hotel in downtown
Bucharest. Rehearsals commenced at the beautiful Atheneum Cocert Hall
(Built 1888) Friday am. The local Bucharest Doctors Orchetra joined forces
with us (22 of them).
Bucharest DoctorsOrchestra
The first few minutes were a bit awkward as people
established their seating arrangements, but once that was sorted we sat
down to a serious 2 1/2 day rehearsal. My desk partner was Arulian, a
"Nuclear Physicist"...many PhDs conferred on him. He is a charming person
and a very good violinist. We hit it off straight away and I knew I would
be in for a very enjoyable time. Auriel has played with the Bucharest
Doctors Orchestra for many years. I don't think any of the locals expected
the level of invasion or the very high standard of music making that we
could achieve together.
Another delighful fact of playing with the Romanians was that a lot of ther
professionals in the Enesco Philharmonic also joined us for the shear fun of
it. Naturally that lent a strenght that is most welcome in any amateur
orchestra.
Warwick Stengaards, who is the resident conductor of Lucern Opera and the
Vienna Folksoper took us on this time. A happier more musical and fun person
we have yet to find to take us. All enjoyed his intense musicality and good
wit. There is an art to working with orchestras such as ours and he
certainly delivered the goods for us.
The Atheneum concert hall is simply the most beautiful and best acoustic I
have ever played in. It is ranked amongst the top 5 for acoustics in the
world.
On Saturday our 2 soloists joined us. My old friend Violist Hartmut
Lindemann from Koln accompanied by Rudy Koelman violinist. Rudy and Hartmut
gave the most beautiful rendition of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante we have
ever heard and then a real bonus, they played Handel-Halverson duet for
Violin and Viola...it was simply virtuosic.
Von Suppe's Light Cavalary March and Dvorak's 8th Symphony went very well,
so much so that the audience often burst into allpause after some of the
movements.
We received a standing ovation at the end of the concert and there were more
than a few moist eyes as we all said goodbye to some of our newfound
friends.
Oh I didn't mention the fabulous Romanian Gypsy band that entertained us at
the Saturday evening EDO dinner at the 5 Star Intercontinental Hotel. Just
imagine, some people had never seen or heard of the Cimbalom!!!!
Now plans are under way for our November 20, 2005 London concert. Anyone
interested please go to www.edo.uk.net
to register as a player or just for
information about us.

concert: compliments for the event!

so far probably the biggest DoctorsOrchestra from the USA, see our presentation here.
(right:) Victor S. Whaby, their founder and conductor
VA-National Medical Musical Group (VA-NMMG), a non-profit organization, is the largest medical musical group in America, with the membership of its chorus and orchestra spanning almost every state in the Union. Many are associated with the Department of Veterans Affairs--or with medical practice, teaching, or research. VA-NMMG performances have been at Carnegie Hall (New York), Kennedy Center and Constitution Hall (Washington, DC), Symphony Center (Chicago), Davies Hall (San Francisco), the Las Vegas Hilton Theater (Las Vegas), St. Andrews Cathedral Honolulu (Hawaii), as well as for the US Congress, the United Nations, and at the White House.
This orchestra is touring through Germany this year in November 12th and 16th 2005 and they are inviting all German MusicDocs (orchestra and choir!) to participate in this concert! November 12th in cooperation with the dean of the medical faculty, Prof. Pfeilschifter, in the "Alte aula" of the University, November 16th (or 15th to be confirmed) in cooperation with the dean of the Charité in Berlin, Prof. Paul.
Making more research in Germany
because I wanted to forward the invitation of Victor S. Wahby and his orchestra
to all german doctors orchestras I found www.aerzteorchester.com
an "old web" of Dr. Soukup from the German Doctors Orchestra which
will be cancelled soon.... He gave me a big plus of information and the
permission to use it, thank you! Later I contacted nearly all of them directly
and some of them even told me of more orchestras!
