The organ  -the queen of the instruments- play with hands and feet: What a job!

Remember what Mozart has said: It is important that you make music, even if you play with your nose........

See our entries in section "Past" and "DocPresentation"! Of course Albert Schweitzer has been a top OrganDoc!

OrganDoc collecting money for new organ

Klinkhammer, Gisela
[Arzt sammelt Spenden für neue Orgel: Keine Mißklänge in Dortmund]
Deutsches Ärzteblatt 95, Heft 12 vom 20.03.98, Seite A-676

As a student he had to decide if he should make his hobby music or his passion medicine to his profession reports the anesthesist Dr. med. Johannes Bremme from Dortmund/Germany. Finally he decided for the profession of medicine but had always followed the music, too. He did not like practising the piano very much but was fascinated by the organ from the very beginnning. After a few years of teaching he played as an organist in churches.

Now he wants to fulfil a special siwh to his congregation and himself: To get a new organ for 230.000 €. Out of which 150.000 € have to be collected by donations. The organ as-of-today was bought as a provisory solution 30 years ago but is incapable to go on with its service on long term. For years people liked to have a bigger organ but also had a lack of money. The new instrument should be a compromise between wishes and feasability, financial responsibility....

Her preference is for rarities off the beaten track. The Berlin Morgenpost called her "an unusually high-spirited organ artist." Since 1980, both as pianist and organist, she has played in The Duo with trumpeter Edward H. Tarr.

Irmtraud Tarr is also a psychotherapist and music therapist (Ph. D., University of Hamburg 1988) working in her own practice. Among the 18 books she has written to date, Performance Power (Summit Books, Tempe AZ, ISBN 1-887210-00-8) should be mentioned. Others have been translated from the original German into Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and even Chinese.

Irmtraud Tarr can be seen and heard on a regular basis in the media, especially in the radio and TV stations in Baden-Baden and Cologne. She is often invited to give seminars on stage fright and to lecture on diverse themes.

Since 1994, multitalent Tarr has become an enthusiastic cheese-maker and double-bass player. On October 17, 2000 in the St. Paul Cathedral, she gave the world premiere of a piece dedicated to her by Peter Schickele alias P. D. Q.
