I was exposed to
jazz at home to some extent, not a huge amount, but my Dad had been a jazz
trumpet player and is again now but its sort of gone through early family life
where Daddy put it away and decided it wasn’t a good thing. But I had listened
to things by Louis Armstrong and was aware of jazz and I suppose subliminally
I had grown up with it.

Perri Klass, MD, is Medical Director and President of Reach Out and Read.
Through her work at the ROR National Center she has trained thousands of medical
providers in the ROR strategies of early literacy promotion. She has spoken
extensively on behalf of ROR, including participating in panels at the White
House Conference on Global Literacy in September, 2006, and at the UNESCO
Literacy Conferences in Qatar and Mali in 2007, in addition to presentations at
many hospitals and academic medical centers across the United States.
Dr. Klass is Professor of Journalism and Pediatrics at New York University. She
attended Harvard Medical School and completed her residency in pediatrics at
Children's Hospital, Boston, and her fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases
at Boston City Hospital. She has received numerous awards for her work as a
pediatrician and educator; she was recently awarded the 2007 American Academy of
Pediatrics Education Award, which recognizes her educational contributions which
have had a broad and positive impact on the health and well-being of children.
Dr. Klass has written extensively about medicine, children, literacy, and
knitting. Her nonfiction includes Every Mother is a Daughter: the Neverending
Quest for Success, Inner Peace, and a Really Clean Kitchen, which she coauthored
with her mother, and Quirky Kids: Understanding and Helping Your Child Who
Doesn't Fit In, which she coauthored with Eileen Costello, MD. She is also the
author of two books about medical training, A Not Entirely Benign Procedure:
Four Years as a Medical Student, and Baby Doctor: A Pediatrician's Training. Her
most recent book is Treatment Kind and Fair: Letters to a Young Doctor; The
Mercy Rule, a novel, will appear in 2008.
Through her work with Reach Out and Read, Dr. Klass has been able to integrate
her commitment to the health care of young children with her love of books,
stories, and the written word. In an essay on the program, she wrote, "When I
think about children growing up in homes without books, I have the same visceral
reaction as I have when I think of children in homes without milk or food or
heat: It cannot be, it must not be. It stunts them and deprives them before
they've had a fair chance."

His show - a bit broadway like Frank Sinatra's "I did
it my way"? Not at all for sure!
An amateur comedian tries to develop his
talents mixed with local dialect and poetry and tells his story from his
first time at school until today... parts of his program are his choir
"Jugendfreunde" and his Duo with Edwin Panz (in dialect).
