The new World Doctors Orchestra was founded in 2007. It is
dedicated to global symphony: our music playing will also foster the
international understanding and networking of physicians and support the
development of medicine and health policy in the world.
Founder and conductor is Stefan Willich, Professor in Medicine at the Charité
University Medical Center in Berlin, Germany, the largest medical school in
Europe (see www.charite.de/epidemiologie ). He is also an experienced and avid
musician and studied violin, chamber music and conducting in Stuttgart, Berlin,
Boston/Tanglewood and Paris.
We are inviting medical doctors from all over the world to share our vision and
enjoy music by participating in the first sessions and inauguration concert in
Berlin, Germany, in the winter of 2007/2008. The duration will be 5 days. The
first concert will include works by Dvorak and Beethoven to be performed twice,
in the medical community and in the Berlin Philharmonic Hall. The rehearsals
include coaching by professional musicians. Apart from orchestra playing there
will be ample opportunity for chamber music and socializing. Proficiency in
classical instrument and orchestra experience are requested.
His Yoga school is the only one (in Augsburg/Germany) guided by
a doctor....
His Yoga techniques are also influenced by Elisabeth Haich and Yesudian, see

Seit uralten Zeiten wachen die ›Großen
Eingeweihten‹ über das geistige Wissen der Menschheit.
Nur weniges ist aus den verborgenen Tempeln und den Mysterienschulen des
Altertums jemals bekannt geworden.
fallen – was Vergangenheit war,

Sinopoli was born in
Venice,
Italy,
and later studied at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatoire and at
Darmstadt, including being mentored in composition with
Karlheinz Stockhausen.
He also obtained a degree in medicine from the University of
Padua, and completed a dissertation on criminal anthropology.
Sinopoli was appointed principal conductor of the
Philharmonia in 1984, and served in this position until 1994,
making a number of recordings with them, including music of
Edward Elgar and the complete symphonies of
Gustav Mahler.[3]
He became principal conductor of the
Staatskapelle Dresden in 1992. He is best known for his intense
and sometimes controversial interpretations of
opera,
especially works by Italian composers and
Richard Strauss. He received criticism for his slow tempi in his
conducting of symphonic works.
In April 2001, Sinopoli died of a
heart attack while conducting
Giuseppe Verdi's
Aïda at
the
Deutsche Oper in
Berlin.
His last recordings included
Richard Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos and Friedenstag,
as well as Dvorak's Stabat Mater.[4]
Sinopoli died in
Berlin,
Germany at age 54, survived by his wife Silvia and two sons.
He began to make a reputation as a composer. His work, typically,
was intense and followed the trend toward serial music that
prevailed at the time. He received several major commissions. His
largest work was an opera named
Lou Salomé, based on the life of a nineteenth century literary
figure. It was premiered at the
Bavarian State Opera in Munich in 1981.
Career
Every October since 2005
Taormina Arte has dedicated a festival to Giuseppe Sinopoli, the
artistic director of the Music section of the Taormina Festival from
1989 to 1997. The Giuseppe Sinopoli Festival does not only celebrate
the man as a musician and as a conductor but also as a composer, a
doctor, an archaeologist and intellectual, with a variety of events
from music and literature, theatre and art to conferences,
exhibitions, publications and, of course, concerts. Every year the
Festival welcomes the most important orchestras in the country. On
the occasion of the first edition of the Giuseppe Sinopoli Festival
the Sinopoli Chamber Orchestra was formed, in collaboration with the
Conservatorio “Arcangelo Corelli” of Messina. The Orchestra, made up
of young talented musicians, both pupils and teachers of the
Conservatorio, mostly performs works by Giuseppe Sinopoli.
Dr. Dean Sophocles
was born and raised in the Philadelphia suburbs, the son of a
professional violinist mother and a dentist father. He is dentist by day
and musician by night. Dean began studying both piano and violin at the
age of five, and by the age of twelve, he was traveling throughout the
US with a young chamber group called the Young Concerto Soloists, led by
a veteran Philadelphia Orchestra member, Jerome Wigler. He studied
classical and jazz piano with various well known Philadelphia based
teachers, as well as briefly with Bruce Hornsby, in a master class
setting at the Omega institute in Rhinebeck, New York. Dean is a
graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and
practices cosmetic and implant dentistry in Media, PA.
Dean has established himself as a session player, a solo jazz pianist,
as well as an ensemble keyboardist in both the rock and jazz genres. His

He has an extraordinary complete collection of books written by
the famous german poet Karl May.
May has been read by nearly every german boy! He wrote stories about the wild
west and his main heroes
are Old Shatterhand a white man (whi in the stories IS Karl May travelling in
the wild west) and Winnetou (the chief of
the Apache Indians). In reality though Karl May has never been to the US. (more

Karl Mays
Psychopathologie and the meaning of medicine in his oriental cycle
Author:
Johannes
Zeilinger
content:
Karl May's
life and work: a unity woven between reality and phantasy, difficult to
understand. The author is renewing the psychopathology of May after
actual diagnosis criteria. A fascinating approach which enlarges
understanding of Karl May's character and is interpreting the
psychopathology as the essential factor FOR his creativity.
Examples in this book are episodes of "Kara Ben Nemsi" in the oriental
area where the hero represents the dualism of Karl May's psyche, the
polarity between his mythomania and depression.
An exhibition of
the German Historical Museum
Curator: Dr. Johannes Zeilinger, Contact: Dr. Sabine Beneke
content
Today Karl May
(1842-1912) has seen the most editions of all German-language
authors – and is at the same time a writer whose cultural impact far
outweighs the purely literary value of his works. The popular image
of the North American West and the Ottoman orient bear the stamp of
May’s decisive characterizations. His travel narratives led
generations of readers to distant and exotic locales without the
author having any personal experience of the theaters of his
narratives.
Ranging from objects from May’s private estate, to paintings, to
ethnographic artifacts, the exhibition presents May’s work and
personal history in the context of his time. It illuminates his rise
from writer of pulp fiction to the people’s author. Karl May’s
literary success was consolidated with his travel narratives. His
imaginary journeys are put in the context of the traditions behind
his image of the Orient and the Native Americans as well as the
fascination that he exercised on his readership in the cultural and
historical setting of the German Empire. In conclusion the
exhibition provides an overview of the shifting history of May’s
reception up to the present.
From the 16th to the 18th of November, 2007 the German Historical
Museum, supported by the Karl-May-Gesellschaft e.V. and under the
direction of Prof. Dr. Helmut Schmiedt, will be hosting a symposium
on the work, reception and contemporary relevance of the author. (Questions

Maimonides answered an inquiry concerning
astrology, addressed to him from
Marseille. He responded that man should believe only what
can be supported either by rational proof, by the evidence of
the senses, or by trustworthy authority. He affirms that he had
studied astrology, and that it does not deserve to be described
as a science. The supposition that the fate of a man could be
dependent upon the constellations is ridiculed by him; he argues
that such a theory would rob life of purpose, and would make man
a slave of destiny. (See also

predestination.)
