from Deutsches Ärzteblatt
Golf has become more and more popular. This implies
that physicians have to manage an increasing number of golf
specific medical problems. With respect to the cardiovascular system golf
has a moderate intensity. Modulating factors are personal fitness, enviromental
conditions, and psychological stress. However, muscles, bones, and joints
underlie a specific strain which may be dramatically increased due to an
insufficient golf technique. Approximately 40 per cent
of recreational golf players suffer from orthopedical
problems like back, hand or elbow injuries and/or pain occasionally. Thus,
medical attendance towards golf players should include golf
specific complementary exercise, an accurate analysis of the golf
technique, and if necessary a reasonable modification of the latter. In
conclusion, golf is an event which offers additional
physical activity with a variety of physiopsychologic tasks at moderate exercise
intensity. Contributing to the specific conditions of medical attendance and
consequences, golf may be recommended as a mode of
exercise with a beneficial impact on preventive medical aspects.
Key words: golf-energy uptake, cardiac risk, injury

the happy winners!
The winner Dr. Behm with president Dr. Rug
The association of golf playing doctors had such a big response
for the announcement of this tournament that the lists had to be closed already
in May 2003!
A part from 35 new participants many well-known medical doctor, dentist,
pharmacist and veterinarian colleagues were coming from all parts of Germany,
also represented some "new" areas where nobody had come from before.
This is surely also a merit of the Stada AG from Bad Vilbel who sponsored the
event.
The members of the club in Bad Kissingen were so kind to play on
other courses around Bad Kissingen and the greenkeeper did a perfect job. So the
Friday started with warming up and getting familiar with the course.
On Saturday the first big round brought a new title chance for the prior winner
Dr. Behm and Dr. Meyer close up. This was decided with the verfy last hits on
Sunday for Dr. Behm, a really phantastic thrill. Dr. Meyer at least got the
senior title with his age of 70 years!
See all results in a list (In german but also comprehensable for an english golfer....)

I am a recent graduate on Med school, doing my clinicals and awaiting
residency. My talent is in golf, my compassion is medicine. I was 23 years as a practicing Chiropractor and went back into school to make of happy marriage or the disiplines. My father is a medical doctor in Michigan. For 20 years he had German exchange student, many who have become doctors. I encourage dialouge, interaction and the likes. It breaks down walls, as you so well know. So, I invite any and all to Lexington KY, horse country and I will show you golf courses like youve never seen. By the way I will be in general practice. Presently doing pain managment. Larry M. Lammers .http://www.golftoday.co.uk for UK and USA.

Please tell us your stories like the pharmacist Rolf E. Schindler from
Würzburg/Germany, who among other hobbies
plays also golf and wrote me his hobby-report (apart from the fact that one of
his co-worker pharmacists is singer.
He is presented in this web. His name is Patrick
Simper)
Hallo Wolfgang,
a couple of months ago you have asked me to report about my hobbies.
That is a little risky because I am helping many prejudices by that.....
Besides my professions as pharmacist, art dealer and setting up
game-automates
I am active in the politics for my profession as pharmacist (as delegate of the
Bavarian pharmacist chamber and regional president of the nationwide association
of "active pharmacists").
In some associations like "wine brethren" and "aviation club" I am in the presidency.
In principle that would do, but the day has 24 hours! So I go fishing and
hunting, go by boat and
go flying my balloon (see picture: Rolf E. Schindler might be flying over a golf course
in his balloon.....).
Also I fly and shoot "Vorderlader", drive bycicle and play golf.
Under the aspect of time that goes very wel because my wife Hanne participates in all of these hobbies apart from flying.
But my favourite hobby is music! I have bought several instruments and try to
play "jagdhorn", trombone,
trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, "Hackbrett", "Zither", double
bass, hornpipes, drumset, violin, a self-constructed harmonika,
electric organ and last not least piano.
Regular highlights of my little life are the games of chess with my
12-year-old son Michael
having a (big) glass of wine and playing four hands with my little boy.
Sorry that this letter took so long although I have sufficiently time,
but in the beginning I did not find the picture with my balloon.....
Kind regards and see you soon,
Rolf
