A practicing physician, George Miller was taking a film course at Melbourne University in 1971 when he met Byron Kennedy. The two collaborated on the short comedy Violence in the Cinema, Part 1 and the documentary Devil in an Evening Dress, and in 1979, with Kennedy producing, Miller co-scripted and directed the futuristic actioner Mad Max. A box-office smash, it led to the even-more-impressive sequel Mad Max 2 (aka The Road Warrior), an international success that brought Miller to Hollywood. In the States he helmed the exciting "Nightmare At 20,000 Feet" episode of Twilight Zone: The Movie, then returned to Australia for Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Miller's notable recent films include the John Updike adaptation The Witches of Eastwick and the medical drama Lorenzo's Oil. Miller also co-produced John Duigan's comedies of adolescent life, The Year My Voice Broke and Flirting. ~ All Movie Guide
